In writing, please don't use emojis 😂

Bloganuary day 12! Today’s prompt is:

What emoji(s) do you like to use?

Hahaha, so how do we relate the use of emojis to writing? I could keep this one super short, a one-liner, it’s simple – don’t do it. Hahaha.

Certainly not in the situation of writing fiction – which really is more of my focus, despite the large amounts of non-fiction that I also write in the form of articles and blog posts.

That said, I do love using some emojis on a personal level. My most used ones include: 😊❤️😂🤔🤞🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️

What I’m not a fan of (likely an age thing) are entire messages typed out with the sole use of emojis. My reaction is literally “come on people, use your words” haha. But they are a nice addition to help convey tone in an environment of shorthand and no context.

So while not a one-liner, I am going to wrap this one up as shorter than all the rest, because I really don’t have much else to say on the matter 😊❤️

So for any smart-a$$ followers, who’s going to be the first to reply with a comment that tells a story through the sole use of emojis? 😂 (It’s honestly how I’d respond to my own post haha.)

I agree on their not-use in *writing,* that’s the key, texting isn’t writing in this context. Here’s why I feel, when we’re reading writing, our internal dialogue become engaged, at first consciously and then, as we’re transported into the story and become immersed, that internal-dialogue e goes silent or non-conscious and we in! Emojis break the internal dialogue as it’s a different modality and cognitive mechanism, thus our reading flow is broken and immersion is more difficult to obtain. In texting and comments, the text part is short an generally we’re abbreviating our communication, if not our words and thus the entire mind is geared different, an emojis, which as an abbreviation of a kind work just fine. Different objectives and goals, different methods thus. Knowing what we are doing is always potent for achieving it. 🙂
P.S. – I saw a study that minimal use f emojis in business emails had positive results, better than none and better than many.

That’s really interesting information! And especially on the business emails. Kind of leans into my belief of moderation in pretty much all aspects of life. (Except novels, no moderation there, no emojis haha.)
